THE PROCESS OF OBTAINING A VTCT CERTIFICATION

1) Attend TWO day Practical Application Lessons. Each student will be evaluated based on competency. An induction will be given to further clarify this process, a log book provided and portfolio prepared.

2) Case Studies and continued Practice are a commitment made by the Student. Should a student already have access to an IPL/Laser machine, then they can practice until they feel confident to return to us to perform 4 professional Assessment (these will be carried out on members of the public). Should a student NOT have this facility, they will need to either purchase an IPL/Laser machine or return to the Academy for ‘practice’ sessions.

3) Written Assessments must be produced by the Student in HARD COPY only. A marking process which involves a Tutor, IQA (independent quality assurance officer) and an EQA (external quality assurance officer) will then take place and changes will need to be made accordingly and whereupon necessary until the Assessments are acceptable.

4) A working Portfolio will be submitted by the student and once again marked accordingly.

5) There are currently NO exams for this course.

6) Certification will take place within the allocated timeframe.

NVQ GUIDELINES

How to achieve your NVQ after your training

  • Your training day will furnish you with practical and theoretical  tuition and an ‘ILTA’  Diploma (upon passing a small exam at the end of the day).
  • Following  registration, you will receive your NVQ pack which will include questions and assignments to work through to cover all the theory that you need to know, this is studied AT HOME or IN THE CLASSROOM  (to be set by the Tutor).
  • You will also need to practice the treatments on models,  which will include recording all your work , supported it with photographic evidence as proof that you have carried out  the treatments. These are what is known as  your case studies, and the number required varies by treatment. You will need to show that you can cover a wide range of conditions and clients.
  • Once you have completed the theory assignments and the required number of case studies, you will complete your portfolio (a file to hold all the information). This will then be cross referenced to your assessment book .
  • When your portfolio and assessment book is complete, you will send it to the Head Office for marking. It is always an idea to keep a copy of your work for revision. Always send it recorded delivery.
  • If anything is missing, you might be asked to resubmit some additional information or case studies, there is no charge for this. If your complete portfolio needs to be returned to you, you will be charged postage at £8.00.
  • When your portfolio is signed off, you will be invited to attend an assessment session. The first day will consist of multiple choice test, you must achieve a minimum of 70 % to pass the first stage.  Second stage will take you to 100%. This is done by oral question and answer. Following this you will attend for the practical  assessments. Here you will have to perform each treatment fully and in a commercially viable time.
  • The units you are being assessed on will affect the time you will need to be here.

Your Portfolio Pack

Your Portfolio Pack has full instructions on how to put your portfolio together.    If you work through it step by step you will have completed all the necessary work to submit your portfolio to us.

Your Record of Assessment Booklet(s)

  • An Assessment Booklet is given by the Academy which you will need to refer to once your portfolio is complete.
  • The Assessment booklet(s) will show you the necessary  Performance Criteria which will nned to be covered once you have chosen a date for assessment. Some sections of the booklets are completed by the Academy assessor and others you will need to complete yourself once you have completed your portfolio.  The pages you need to complete are known as the Range pages and the Essential Knowledge & Understanding pages (EKU).
  • The Essential Knowledge and understanding section in your assessment booklet(s) and your training manual(s) will help with your revision.  The essential knowledge and understanding requirements highlighted in white are assessed by a multiple choice test paper.
  • The charge for assistance with your work-book or assessment criteria will be £20.00 per hour.  A session needs to be booked in advance to guarantee a free time/space.

DO NOT USE CORRECTION FLUID OR PENCIL IN YOUR ASSESSMENT BOOK AS IT WILL             NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Submission of Portfolios

  • Your portfolio can take up to 6 weeks to be marked and confirmation sent to you. Please send it by recorded delivery to us.
  • If you have any queries concerning your assessment you should contact us.  We know that you will have spent a great deal of time on your portfolio and we will need to spend a lot of time reading it and assessing it before we can put you forward for the next available assessment session.   We hold assessment sessions each month in our Academy.  The sooner you send in your completed portfolio the sooner you will be allocated an assessment date.
  • The date and time of your assessment will be confirmed to you only after we have received your portfolio and it has been marked and signed off.
  • A student who has an assessment must attend on the assessment date given “unless there is a family bereavement or illness where a doctor’s note must be shown”.   This is for external verification sampling purposes.

If you are being assessed on single unit(s) you may only be required to attend for 1 day.

Assessment and bringing a Model or Client

  • Students must bring their own client for themselves, or another student, to work on (in special circumstances we may be able to provide a client but a charge would have to be made).  The assessment will be carried out in a professional manner as if they were a paying customer.
